Shepherds Reading List
It’s hard to argue with the advantages of in person lessons and education. However, there is a limitless amount of DIY & how-to content online and in books on nearly every subject imaginable today. Despite the potential, the depth of information can be intimidating to some. It can be hard to discern what may be worth paying attention to, or knowing what information to avoid when you first start out.
Below is a collection of titles and resources I have found to be reliable, and written by honest authors that are subject matter experts in their own right. Videos and books can be an excellent resource for those that want to expand their knowledge base but may not have the resources to attend in person classes. I hope the below list of books can serve as a condensed starting point for anyone interested in expanding their library and knowledge base. There are many many others I could include here, but I wanted to provide a short list to help anyone new start their journey.
I would recommend starting with Joe Dolio’s series first. He covers every topic from a preparedness perspective to be ready for a natural disaster or the extreme without-rule-of-law scenario that feels more likely everyday. If you have never thought about getting prepared, this series is well organized and provides actionable steps and self-checks to ensure you’ve learned the key lessons of each chapter. A key point he makes is to get out and TEST your gear and skills. This is paramount when we begin to teach ourselves and acquire new skills. Without testing our new knowledge and skills we can’t be sure how much we have learned and may not remember what to do or have the confidence in ourselves to use them under stress.
Below are two additional books I have on my reading list that I plan to complete this year. While I can’t claim the information was personally valuable like the others, I do believe they can make excellent additions to anyones library:
The Area Intelligence Handbook by Mike Shelby
Concrete Jungle A green Beret’s Guide to Urban Survival by Clay Martin
